Through the Speakers!

through the speakers

A few weeks ago, I was procrastinating from studying and entered into DJ Rossstar’s Punk Rock Show on Stickam. While in there I met Malcolm, who is in the band Through the Speakers. We talked for a while and I told him about this site, and from there he sent me his band’s ep, titled We. Won’t. Stop.

I have spent some time listening to this ep, and I fully recommend you check out this up and coming band. They are so young and so very talented, you will be doing your ears a favor if you check them out. Self-described as a screamo/electro rock band, Through the Speakers has quite impressive tunes, and uses some great techniques to manipulate voices and sounds.

As for song recommendations, I think everyone should listen to Dear Diary, Stutter Shake Breakdown, and Obscene.

Check out this band from Florida. When I listen to them The Secret Handshake comes to mind, and honestly, who doesn’t love a little Secret Handshake. So check out Through the Speakers.

Artist Profile - Jimmy Eat World

jimmy

For a few years now, Jimmy Eat World has been my favorite band. It feels as though every life instance they have a song for. I have cried along in my car to ‘Hear You Me’, screamed the lyrics to ‘Your House’ or hummed calmly the melody of ‘Carry You’.

It is hard for me to pinpoint a favorite song, but if asked I would say ‘The World You Love’. As for a favorite album, that would have to be Bleed American

I first heard of Jimmy Eat World when they released ‘The Middle’, quite possibly one of the best teenage anthems of my lifetime. I did not discover my true fandom until a few years ago when I picked up the book Nothing Feels Good, by Andy Greenwald.

I recommend you read that book and check out any and every Jimmy Eat World song you can legally (no illegal downloading here people) get your hands on, you won’t regret it.

I < 3 Christmas Music!

Ever since I was little I have always loved Christmas time. I guess I have always been a sucker for glee, joy, holly, glitter and lights. Presents are good too I guess. Family is awesome at Christmastime…and music is too.

I guess I should recommend a few good Christmas songs for you to check out:

 1. Happy Christmas by John Lennon
 2. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays by Nsync
 3. (Christmas) Baby Please Come Home by Death Cab for Cutie
 4. (My Only Wish) This Year by Britney Spears
 5. A Christmas Song by Dave Matthews Band
 6. Christmas in California by The Secret Handshake
 7. O Holy Night by Matt Wertz

I am sure everyone has their own favorite holiday music, but there are my favorite.

Today, I also purchased 2 new christmas eps on iTunes. You should totally check them out!

Britney Spears - Circus

Ok, So I never thought I’d be this into Britney Spears, but I can honestly say I cannot get enough of this album. Honestly, have you listened to it?

Circus is such a great mix of songs. “Womanizer” clearly tops my lists of one of Spears’ best songs, with its upbeat tempo and club feel. I also am quite a fan of the title track “Circus.” My favorite lyrics include:

There’s only two types of people in the world
The ones that entertain, and the ones that observe

I’m like a firecracker, I make it hot
When I put on a show…

And no one can forget to mention Britney’s quite witty track titled “If U Seek Amy” which just borders on the line of extremely inappropriate.

I would recommend ‘Circus’ to any Britney fan of the past, or anyone looking for some good upbeat music to help get though their day.

And Then There Were None
Jamie: For those who do not know much about you, tell them who you are and how you got started?
Matt M: My name is Matt. Originally the band was a metal band for many years until about a year ago when we had some member changes and starting writing euro-dance music.
Jamie: And Then There Were None is an interesting name…where did it come from?
Matt M: Matt R was searching for band names on a book website and then there were none was in between As I Lay Dying and Aerosmith I think. So I guess he thought they did well so he picked it.
Jamie: What do you think makes your music stand out among other bands?
Matt M: I think we have something different to offer. We took Euro-dance and added guitars and made it more of our own. There is no one out there doing this that I am aware of so I think thats pretty stand out.
Jamie: A unique sound is always awesome! What has been your favorite place you have performed so far?
Matt M: We had a great west coast tour over the summer with huge shows that were great. I love the pacific northwest. I honestly love the shows that are in small VFW’s that kids just pack in and its gets hot in sweaty. DIY shows just rule.
Jamie: What band that you have performed with has been your favorite?
Matt M: Our friends the Minus scale and Us against the archers. Best bands in the area.
Jamie: What do you think about the Boston/NH scene?
Matt M: I think its changed a ton over the years. It seems to be slowly coming back to what it use to be. I think more and more kids are going to shows and its getting really fun. I’m really excited about it.
Jamie: I agree. So being on stage…does your band have any pre-show rituals?
Matt M: We have a ton of equipment and our set up time is a lot longer than most bands so we don’t really have time to do anything exciting. Usually its just a big cluster and everyone gets in everyones way.
Jamie: Tons of equipment? What kinds of stuff do you need on stage?
Matt M: We have 2 bass cabs. 2 guitar cabs, a sub woofer, synth cabs. computers, and cables everywhere.
Jamie: Oh wow a lot. Have you ever had an embarrassing moments on stage?
Matt M: Last show matt took off my shirt at the end of the set. It was so out of the blue I think it was more scary than embarrassing, but its not the way I like to end a set.
Jamie: Took off your shirt?
Matt M: Yes. Hahaha
Jamie: If you could tour with any band who would it be and why?
Matt M: Basshunter and Alkaline Rrio. My favorite Euro Dance band, and my favorite band of all time. I would smile the whole time.
Jamie: So Tooth and Nail, you must be stoked about that?
Matt M: Easily our favorite label ever. Mxpx is the reason I listen to music. so many great bands. Anberlin, Mae, Further seems Forever, Underoath. Oh man so many!
Jamie: Wow haven’t heard anyone reference Further Seems Forever in well…forever.
Matt M: Moon is down. GREAT album.
Jamie: So lets talk about fans. Do you feel sites like myspace and facebook have helped you to develop a solid fan base?
Matt M: Absolutely. We really have the coolest fans. They are so dedicated and just all around great people. Tts very inspiring.
Jamie: Have you had any crazy fan experiences?
Matt M: Haha we really haven’t.
Jamie: Phew. What makes a fan stand out to you?
Matt M: I think every fan is unique. I love talking to them after shows. I get a lot of great stories. those are always good
Jamie: Do you write songs together?
Matt M: Matt R usually writes the songs on his computer and gets most of it done, then we will throw some input. Matt R is the brains.
Jamie: Do you ever perform any cover songs?
Matt M: We always play Heaven. Every show.
Jamie: I take it it’s a real crowd pleaser?
Matt M: Very much so.
Jamie: That’s great! So…the age old question - sex, drugs or rock n’ roll?
Matt M: True love, vegetables, and dance.
Jamie: Great Answer. Any last words?
Matt M: Listen to the Minus Scale! GO VEG!
Jamie: Hehe. Thanks so much for your time!
Matt M: No problem!
